After a few cold weeks, the heat returned during the Easter weekend and the snowmelt picked up speed again. It takes a week or so before the spring flood is felt in the larger watercourses and there were no significantly higher flows in either Dalälven or Klarälven this week. From this weekend, it will be a little cooler again, which reduces the snowmelt, so Fortum does not expect any greater speed on the spring flood next week either.

The location of the larger lakes and reservoirs at the beginning of the spring flood:

Dalälven
In Dalälven, the congestion is completely submerged and the level will only increase slowly in the near future. Siljan has started to rise a few cm per day and will continue to rise about 5 cm per day in the near future.

In the Västerdalälven river, the flow is rising slowly and according to the forecast for the next two weeks, there is a very low risk of high flows.

Klarälven
In Klarälven, the inflow to Höljesmagasinet has increased slightly during Easter, but is still low. The bottling has been low during week 16. Week 17 the bottling will be a little higher and they will be a noticeable flow increase in Klarälven. Compared with a normal spring flood, the bottling is still low even in week 17.

In the lower part of the Klarälven river, the flow in the river has increased a little more and will continue to increase in the coming weeks. It is increasing from a low level and there is a very low risk of flooding in the coming weeks.

In Norsälven, Fryken’s level has started to rise and will continue to rise for another week.

All in all, it is a very calm start to the spring flood. Everything currently indicates that the spring flood will be small in both Klarälven and Dalälven.
