In order to support Ukraine and contribute to securing the country’s energy supply, the government has decided that Svenska kraftnät may transfer equipment that can be used to repair the country’s electricity grid.
– A secure electricity supply is necessary to maintain socially important activities in Ukraine. Sweden is now contributing equipment that can be used to repair electricity networks that have been destroyed during the war. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is unjustifiable and the government is acting with sanctions against Russia and by supporting Ukraine and strengthening Sweden, says Minister of Energy and Digitization Khashayar Farmanbar.
Svenska kraftnät has received a request from Ukraine via the European Network of Transmission System Operators to contribute equipment for repairing electricity networks. Svenska kraftnät maintains a dialogue with recipients of the material in Ukraine, and collaborates with the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) to arrange transport.
Svenska kraftnät has therefore made a request to the government to be allowed to transfer equipment to Ukraine from the emergency stock that exists for the repair of electricity networks. The agency assesses that the equipment can be dispensed with without affecting the Swedish emergency preparedness request. The Government has today, 21 April, approved Svenska kraftnät’s petition.
